Preparing CAD Assets with PiXYZ Studio

Overview

Course Description

Introduce you to the process of using PiXYZ Studio to prepare CAD assets for use in the Unity Engine. You’ll learn how to assess your model for necessary cleanup, adjust the model hierarchy for ease of use in Unity and for rigging purposes, and how to properly generate a Unity-friendly mesh.

With your mesh preparation complete, you’ll learn how to import the clean mesh into Unity and apply HDRP materials. You’ll also learn how to create simple animation sequences, such as opening a door.

By the end of this workshop, you’ll have experienced Unity’s complete import pipeline for CAD objects, and you’ll be able to set up simple scenes with your imported assets.

Learning Objectives

Define how Unity can be used to improve visualization production pipelines.

  • Identify ways in which existing technical skill sets transfer to Unity
  • Describe requirements for converting current pipelines to Unity
  • Explain a real-time workflow methodology to teams
  • Define the HD Render pipeline and how it is used to produce high fidelity imagery in Unity

Work with assets from common Digital Content Creation Tools used in the Auto Industry.

  • Use PiXYZ Studio to convert NURBs data to tessellated meshes in preparation for import into the Unity Engine
  • Identify how to prepare an asset for clean import into Unity

Develop real-time visualization-ready scenes in the Unity engine.

  • Navigate in the Unity editor to efficiently and rapidly to produce realistic real-time environments
  • Import and configure assets for constructing scene environments.
  • Set up and configure a High Definition Rendering Pipeline (HDRP) project.

Create, edit, assign and modify materials to create realistic models and visual environments.

  • Identify Material settings for project assets.
  • Configure imported materials to work with HDRP.
  • Create and configure custom materials for the scene environment.

Use lighting to create realistic scenes.

  • Configure scene lighting using Global Illumination for Real-time lighting scenarios.
  • Create Reflection Probes to simulate realistic scene reflection.
  • Identify light types such as Point Lights to use throughout the scene.

Create simple animated sequences using Unity animation tools.

  • Identify techniques for creating hierarchical rigs for automotive assets to animate components such as doors
  • Use the Animation editor to create simple animations for component movement
  • Identify methods for calling animations via script
